Cambridge Capacitors have recently introduced the “POWER QUALITY DIVISION” which supplies a variety of products and services for the client with power quality problems
The product range is extensive and includes:
- LV Power Factor Correction.
This includes:
- Single phase capacitors.
- Three phase cylindrical and modular capacitors.
- Automatic Assemblies for OEM applications.
- Micromatic / Minimatic automatic units

- Midimatic automatic units

- Multimatic automatic units
Above 55kvar
- Fully automatic capacitor / reactor banks for applications where harmonic generating loads are problematic.
- Speed Filters (Thyristor controlled switching).
This equipment represents the ultimate solution in rapid power factor compensation, filtering or transient control.
Speed filters has been developed to meet the most demanding Applications with operating times within 20ms (I cycle).
The key aspects of our automatic range of power factor correction equipment are as follows:
- All free standing automatic equipment has been designed and developed in accordance with IEC 439-1/2 and with EMC 89/336/CEE prescription concerning Electromagnetic Compatibility.
All our ranges have been successfully tested to verify the conformity to the Standards as mentioned, Conformity Certificates are available on request.
No other manufacturer of PFC equipment in the UK, has successfully undertaken type testing to achieve conformity to the above standards.
- Multimatic Filter Banks come complete with Thermal protection with trip and reset facilities, our MCP3 Control and protection unit, which includes; start ventilation and disconnection of bank with visual and acoustic signal. Harmonic and over-current alarm. See Multimatic leaflet for description.
- Our heavy duty; long life capacitors type CRM 3 have been designed to operate in arduous conditions (i.e. Over-voltage, over-temperature and harmonic polluted environments). They are designed to withstand currents 3 times larger than the nominal value. The construction is Bi-metallised paper and polypropylene film as a dielectric.
- Active Filters
These are 3 & 4 wire designs with a range from 25amps to 520amps.
- Induction Furnace Capacitors.
Capacitors both industrial and medium frequency.
These can be forced or natural cooling as well as water cooling.
- MV Power Factor Correction.
The BIORIPHASO/TF All film dielectric capacitor giving low losses. Advanced CAD technology allows the facility to design banks and filters for turnkey projects.
Range 50kvar to 400kvar /unit
Voltage 3 to 24kv /unit.
- Magnetic Components.
We have dedicated solutions in the field of magnetic components with the design of HV power supplies for military purposes as a logical evolution to the TVC.
This range also includes Tuning and Blocking filters for capacitor banks.

Site surveys, power factor checks examination & test of any existing equipment complete with full written confidential report.
Full harmonic analysis in line with G5/4 recommendations.
- Maintenance Contracts:
Existing power factor equipment examined and tested in accordance to legal requirements.
This also prolongs the live of equipment, reduces risk of breakdown and reduces electricity costs.
- PCB Collection & Disposal Service.
PCB in equipment is now illegal.
- All equipment containing PCB should have been registered by 31st July2000
- All PCB’s should have been disposed of by 31st December 2000
The service applies to capacitor products and is carried out in accordance with all existing legislation regarding the collection, transportation and disposal of hazardous waste.
