Lighting Capacitors
For use in parallel and series power factor correction in fluorescent and discharge light fittings, including HID lamps. The capacitors are of the non-impregnated dry film type and use a very low loss polypropylene film which has an extremely thin self healing layer deposited on it utilising a high vacuum process.
These are manufactured under our ISO 9001 QA system and are 100% tested to ensure complete safety and reliability.
Discharge lamps require suitable chokes for ignition and due to the inductance, the power factor can be between 0.5 and 0.7. Electricity companies require the power factor to be corrected to cos. Ø=0.9 and this is normally achieved by use of a capacitor. They can be for single lamps or group correction (Parallel types) or for series use where the choke and capacitor are in series.
For safety reasons, an integral resistor is fitted across the capacitor element to ensure that the voltage across the capacitor is reduced to less than 50V one minute after disconnection.
